The newly deployed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development, Engr. Shakirudeen Salaam, has advised government at all levels to prioritize impactful projects over monetary hand-outs. Speaking during his maiden working visit to the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) of the Ogun State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OG-RAAMP) over the weekend, Engr. Salaam emphasized the importance of sustainable development initiatives.

He attributed the recognition of Governor Dapo Abiodun as “Governor of the Year” by a section of the media to the Governor’s commitment to impactful projects. The PS commended Governor Abiodun for supporting RAAMP, highlighting the Governor’s dedication to improving the financial situation of rural communities.

“I’m aware Ogun State is not the only state partaking in this project; several other states are involved. It shows a strong desire to uplift farmers and market women out of poverty,” Engr. Salaam stated. He urged SPIU members to ensure the project’s success.

The Acting Project Coordinator of RAAMP in Ogun State, Engr. Waheed Adejumo, noted that the project would enhance the financial status of beneficiaries upon completion. He explained that the project’s various interventions, such as rehabilitation, upgrading, and spot improvements, would alleviate pressure on urban infrastructure and improve conditions in rural areas.

“The interventions we focus on will reduce pressure on urban facilities and ensure they last longer when conditions in the hinterland are improved,” Engr. Adejumo stated.
